Does this mean we’ve been lied to all these years? I think unintentionally, yes. The whole aerobic craze was a mistake. Long aerobic training is popular because it is easy to implement and because the media glorified it.

If your primary purpose is to improve your running performance, cross-training does not help you much. There is an important principle in exercise training called the ‘specificity of training’ - that is, exercise you perform in practice needs to be as close as possible to the actual competition.
